RESEARCH & INFORMATION

back to “about us and our work” page

RESEARCH SERVICES

The Information Unit provides input to our research programme, whether directly conducting research or working in partnership with others. Recent research partners have included The Rainbow Project, NI Housing Executive, Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh), Sheffield Hallam University, and the Food Standards Agency NI, amongst others.

Recent research topics have included a Northern Ireland wide baseline assessment of health and well-being of people staying in temporary accommodation projects; feasibility of a furniture scheme; an examination of homelessness amongst our LGB&T communities; destitution across the UK, multiple exclusion  homelessness, as well as a number of project / in-house evaluations, including the Social Return on Investment of Fareshare NI, and evaluation of the Regional Service User Network.

INFORMATION SERVICES

We aim to provide a credible and diverse information service to our members, dealing with statistical and information queries, as well as the development of consultation responses and the production of briefings and resources in a number of easily accessible formats, on many varied topics on behalf of our membership.

As well as our representation and policy work, we also facilitate two members’ fora, one in the North West area, and one in the Greater Belfast area. These provide our members with the opportunity to network and share best practice, link up with agencies, as well as allowing us to keep abreast with their concerns.

Much of our information work takes place within the context of campaigning and awareness raising, for example, during Homelessness Awareness Week (HAW).
