Here's Siobhan's story. She is typical of the people who give their time to the charity.

Siobhan, retired, worked in health promotion and now volunteers with a number of organisations. Siobhan joined the Fareshare team in march 2011:

‘I saw the ad in the Belfast Telegraph for the new depot and thought "that sounds brilliant." I was lucky to join Fareshare from the very beginning and was one of the first volunteers. From the first day i was hooked! I love the varied and practical nature of the work, and that the results are immediate.

I enjoy ringing our members each week to take and pack food orders. I am constantly amazed at the quality and quantity of food that our donors give us. There’s a feel good factor in delivering the food, you get to feel like Santa every day and find charities welcome you with a smile.

Before I started, I was anxious about whether I could do the job, but the training and continued support the team gave me was excellent. I've learnt a few new skills too! I’ve met new people and enjoy the banter with the staff and volunteers.

I have learned to work better in a team and have to remind myself that my way is not the only way of doing things. I am very proud to be part of Fareshare, and I always tell everyone of the great work they do.’
